Dr. Lee is currently a Professor of Rheumatology and a Division Chief of Rheumatology at Ewha Womans University College of medicine.
She has been an active member of the Korean College of Rheumatology (KCR) serving as a Director of International Cooperation, member of Board, and member of various committees and also an active member of Korean Association of Internal Medicine serving as a Director of Informatics Board. She served as is the President of Korean Society of Gout Research, and a Chair of Academic Affairs Committee Korean Society of SLE Research. She served as a Scientific Committee Chair for the LUPUS 2023.
She and her colleagues have made important scientific contributions in rheumatology, especially discovering the role of immature B cells in the pathogenesis of SLE. Her group continuously works to define the role of B cells in the development of autoimmunity. Her group also has made contributions to the clinical rheumatology by reporting the risk of HPV infection in Korean patients with SLE, and also by applying newer imaging techniques to improve the clinical care of RA, gout, and ankylosing spondylitis. In addition, the group is also conducting epidemiologic research to define the disease burden in women of childbearing age with rheumatic diseases.
